Scheme Journey
Creating Lichfield Leisure Centre
01
The
Vision
Rethinking Leisure
Delivery in Lichfield
Lichfield District Council set out to create a modern leisure destination that would improve community wellbeing, encourage active lifestyles and futureproof the district’s aquatic provision.
However, rising construction costs and the limitations of traditional pool delivery methods meant a different approach was needed. ReCreation was engaged to challenge conventional thinking and develop a smarter, more commercially sustainable solution.
Challenging the
Traditional Model
Working alongside Lichfield District Council, planners, stakeholders and community groups, ReCreation led the early feasibility and strategic development process. Through collaborative consultation and technical review, the original brief evolved into a more flexible, future-focused facility designed around community demand, operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Rather than following the conventional “dig and pour” approach, ReCreation introduced an innovative above-ground pool solution that reduced programme risk, improved delivery efficiency and supported the council’s wider environmental objectives.

ReCreation Collective
One Integrated
Leisure Collective
ReCreation coordinated a carefully selected network of specialist partners across architecture, engineering, project management and aquatic innovation to deliver a fully integrated leisure solution.
This collaborative structure enabled streamlined communication, aligned decision-making and a unified delivery strategy from concept through to construction.
From Concept to Construction
With the vision established, ReCreation continued to lead the scheme through detailed design development, stakeholder coordination and delivery strategy, ensuring the project remained aligned with the council’s operational, commercial and community objectives throughout.
Working collaboratively with the wider ReCreation collective, the project has been shaped around long term performance as much as construction delivery. Sustainability, operational efficiency and user experience have remained central to the decision making process, with the development targeting a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating alongside significant Biodiversity Net Gain improvements.
As construction progresses, Lichfield Leisure Centre is already demonstrating the value of a more connected and forward thinking approach to leisure delivery, combining strategic vision, technical expertise and collaborative partnership under one aligned direction.

Creating Long-Term Impact
Lichfield Leisure Centre represents more than a construction project. It demonstrates how integrated thinking, collaborative delivery and modern leisure strategy can create facilities designed to perform socially, environmentally and commercially for decades to come.
From improving health and wellbeing outcomes to reducing operational pressures and increasing accessibility, the scheme reflects ReCreation’s long-term vision for the future of aquatic leisure.
