A ReCreation Story
BUILT TO CHANGE MORE THAN LEISURE
ReCreation was founded by Olympians who understood first-hand what access to great aquatic facilities can unlock. Today, that experience drives a bigger ambition: to challenge how leisure is developed, create more opportunities to be active and leave a positive impact in the communities we work with.
It All Started...
In a swimming pool
Every Olympian starts somewhere. For ReCreation's founders, access to swimming created opportunities that ultimately took them to the highest level of sport. But across the UK, ageing facilities, shrinking water space and escalating development costs are putting those same opportunities at risk. ReCreation was created to do something about it.
REVOLUTIONISE SWIMMING.
CHANGE LIVES.

Three Journeys. One Shared Belief.
FROM THE PODIUM TO A PURPOSE
After the 2004 Athens Olympics, Steve Parry and Adrian Turner were confronted by a shocking reality: nearly a third of children were leaving primary school unable to swim 25 metres. Rather than accept the status quo, they asked a simple question:
WHY NOT BRING THE POOL TO THE PUPILS?
Humble Beginnings
BRINGING THE POOL TO THE PUPILS
In 2005, Pools 4 Schools was launched under Total Swimming, using temporary mobile swimming pools installed inside school halls and assembled in just three to four days. The idea was simple: take swimming to the communities that needed it most. These pools gave underserved children access to swimming for up to six weeks at a time, dramatically expanding opportunities to learn.

Rebecca Adlington later joined Steve and Adrian, bringing her own Olympic experience, energy and determination to make swimming more accessible to thousands more children.

The Team Grew. So Did the Ambition.
THE MEDALS MATTERED.
BUT WHAT CAME NEXT MATTERED MORE.

The Ambition Grew
A TEMPORARY SOLUTION COULD ONLY GO SO FAR
Pools 4 Schools was making a difference. But it also highlighted a much bigger challenge. Bringing a pool into a community for six weeks created opportunity. Creating lasting access meant rethinking how permanent leisure facilities were conceived, funded and delivered.
The Question got Bigger.
So We Changed The Question
HOW DO WE TAKE SWIMMING TO MORE CHILDREN?
HOW DO WE MAKE LEISURE HAPPEN?
BECAME
And that is where ReCreation enters the story.

Our Evolution
FROM AN IDEA TO A NEW MODEL
ReCreation evolved from a simple belief: if the traditional route was stopping great leisure projects from happening, the route needed to change. Today, ReCreation brings the right expertise together from the very beginning, challenging convention, removing barriers and finding smarter ways to turn leisure ambition into reality.

A Bigger Ambition. A Different Approach. A Model Built to Deliver.

Our Evolution
ONE COLLECTIVE. ONE SHARED VISION.
What began as a way to create greater access to swimming has evolved into something much bigger. ReCreation now brings together the expertise needed to take leisure projects from first idea to lasting impact. From feasibility and engagement through to design, planning, delivery and beyond, one collective works across every stage to remove barriers, challenge convention and make better leisure happen.

Only the Start.
Where Purpose Becomes Impact
What started with a belief that more people should have access to swimming has grown into a much bigger ambition. For ReCreation, success is not simply measured by the leisure facilities we help make possible, but by the opportunities created, communities supported and lasting impact left behind.
Because better leisure should make a difference far beyond the building.
